Nicole Capurso Announced as Director of Women’s Basketball at Game7

Nicole Capurso Announced as Director of Women’s Basketball at Game7
(Nassau County) Long Island January 31, 2012 Game7Sports.Com

Nicole Capurso has been announced as the new Director of Women’s Basketball for Game 7 Sports.Com. Nicole is a student-athlete in her senior year at Hofstra University. Nicole was recruited out of Staten Island, NY where she played high school basketball at St. John Villa Academy and recorded over 1,600 points there despite missing the back end of end of her junior season due to an ACL tear. She was an all-city standout throughout her high school career and by her senior year demanded the Jacques Award, awarded to the best male and female player on Staten Island. Her senior year she also lead Staten Island in scoring (male or female) and was named to first team all city by the Daily News, Newsday, and her local Staten Island Advance. She grew up playing AAU for the Brooklyn Lady Hornets and then moved to the NY Liberty Belles, one of the top AAU organizations in the country at that time.

During her four years in college, Nicole has been able to make strides both on and off the court. In her first season with the Hofstra Pride, she was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie team along with four other CAA rookies. She has helped build her team from a 5-25 season before her arrival to a 16-14 season her freshman year, a 20-14 season her sophomore year with a trip to the second round of the WNIT, followed by a 19-12 season her junior year. She is now a senior, and the second leading scorer, on one of the best teams Hofstra University has seen as they are off to a 12-3 start with early wins over St. Johns, Seton Hall, Kansas State, and Marist.

Nicole comes to us with a scorer’s mentality. She has had a successful basketball career through her ability to make things happen offensively. In all four years at Hofstra she has been among the top three in scoring on her team and is currently 4th all time in three-pointers made at Hofstra University. In December of her senior year she reached the 1,000 point mark becoming one of few athletes who are able to pass that milestone in both high school and college. Off the court, Nicole records a 3.5 GPA and will graduate with a bachelors degree in Exercise Science. She plans to go on to pursue a master’s degree in Physical Education. She has been recognized the past three years for her diligence off the court by receiving the CAA Commissioners Academic Award, as well as being named to the CAA All-Academic Team her sophomore and junior years.

Nicole has jumped on board at Game 7 enthusiastically and campers are excited about what she brings to the table. She arrives with a Division I collegiate work ethic and spills that over to our young athletes every time she is interacting with them. She is a fundamentalist, like the rest of the Game 7 staff, and understands that a solid foundation of the basic fundamentals of the game is most important if you wish to achieve success. She loves an atmosphere where hard work is encouraged and brings with her a pure love of the game and the first-hand knowledge that working hard from a young age all the way up through the college level really does pay off in every way.
